Students at Impington Village College had the chance to put their questions to politicians last week at a Question Time event. The guests were Colin Barker, Political and Campaigning Vice Chairman for the South East Cambridgeshire Conservative Association, John Cowan, Labour parliamentary candidate for South East Cambs,
Killian Bourke, Liberal Democrat county councillor for Romsey Ward and James Youd, Eastern Region
Green Party election agent. Questions ranged from “What is the first thing you would do if you were Prime Minister?” to “Should cigarettes be banned?” In a ballot after the event, the students voted for the Conservative candidate. Said organiser Angela Young: “It was really exciting, and the students were fascinated when the guests got quite heated during the debate. They found it quite hard to pick the candidate whom they agreed with most, but I think it was Colin’s willingness to lower the driving age to 16 which swung it! We are really grateful to all the guests for finding the time to come during this busy period.” In the picture from left are (back row) Colin Barker, student Rachel Fox and John Cowan, and (front row) James Youd and Killian Bourke
