HI Squad: Introduction

Hello readers, we are a small group of year ten girls attending IVC. We are working towards an Arts Bronze Award. The arts award is divided into 4 parts. Part A is called ‘Taking Part’. You need to decide what you are going to do, then you have to give evidence of you doing your chosen art, and you have to review the activity and decide what you might consider doing next. The second part involves being a member of the audience. This involves expressing your opinion on the performance you choose, as evidence of your attendance. This third section is about who you consider to be your arts hero or heroine. For this section you simply need to record your research on this person and the main things that you found out. The final section, Part D, is the arts apprenticeship. In this part you are required to assist an arts leader at a workshop or a session, or you need to share your own arts skill.

As our current group have been to see a street dance performance in London, named ‘Into the Hoods’, we have completed section B of the bronze award. We have also attended an arts workshop at the Junction in Cambridge. Therefore, we have also accomplished Part A. We are currently working towards Part C individually and are planning Part D in smaller groups.

We encourage others to get involved with this award as it is a productive way of spending your spare time and there is an art to suit absolutely everyone.

We are also looking for more members to join us in our work on this newspaper as we are a small group and would like others to contribute to our page.

STARS IN THEIR EYES

They certainly have stars in their eyes!

Many students attending IVC shone in this year’s Stars in their Eyes! Three amazing shows were hosted by students and staff. The show was extremely successful and popular. Tickets for the final, judging, performance were sold out by lunchtime on the first day. Students committed to the show by using weekends and after school to return to college and rehearse. This shows a great amount of dedication from both the teachers and the students. Members of staff also contributed on stage and they too sparkled in their performance, along with the other contenders.

The overall winner was ‘A Pencil Full Of Lead.’ HI Squad would like to congratulate Elliott Boulding, Rhoni Cash, Joss Fieldhouse, David October and Oliver Stoneman on their winning performance. All performances showed a huge amount of talent, passion and community spirit. A very well done to all performers!

Remembering the Holocaust

To remember the devastating genocide of the Second World War, Impington Village College had assemblies to commemorate the Holocaust.
GCSE students taking History were extremely privileged to hear about real experiences from some survivors of the Holocaust. They came into school to share their stories and opinions on the event. Students were taken off usual timetable lessons to listen to the visitors. The experience was extremely moving and hearing about the suffering of these people was upsetting, but made the situation become much more realistic. All students listened intently and many questions were asked. One of the visitors who came into school was John Dobai. His story was fascinating and interesting. One part of his story that has remained with us was when he informed us that he was extremely lucky at one point of his life. When he was in a children’s home, he unfortunately became ill and was sent home. A few days later, he was told that the children’s home had been intruded by the opposition and the children had been found dead.    Another survivor was actually born in a concentration camp. Mr Arkinstall, head of History, was extremely pleased with the students’ behaviour and reaction to the moving stories.
This was an experience never to be forgotten and Impington Village College is unbelievably grateful to Harry Bibring, Eva Clarke, Harry Fox and John Dobai for giving up their own time to share their experiences.
